 ■ The Appeal of Ryotei Ryokan Asadaya

“Ryotei Ryokan Asadaya” is a historic inn with over 150 years of history, located in the heart of Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Within walking distance of Omi-cho Market, it features a tranquil and elegant sukiya-zukuri (tea-house style) design.

 1. A Legacy of History and Tradition

10-1

Asadaya was founded in 1867 (Keio 3) and has been welcoming travelers in Kanazawa for over 150 years. Its history dates back even further to 1659 (Manji 2), when the first Asadaya Ihei was appointed as a cargo transport official by the 4th lord of the Kaga Domain, Maeda Tsunanori. The family served in this capacity for approximately 200 years, making the “Edo Sando” (three annual round trips to Edo), before opening the inn “Asada” at its current location in 1867.

 2. A Special Experience in Limited Guest Rooms

2-1

In pursuit of exceptional hospitality, Asadaya reduced its number of guest rooms to just three during renovation. These rooms are constructed in the pure Japanese sukiya-zukuri style using Akita cedar, furnished with local traditional crafts and decorative items that evoke the elegance of Kanazawa. Additionally, the reinforced concrete construction ensures both safety and tranquility throughout the inn, providing a comfortable stay.

 3. World-Recognized Kaga Cuisine in the Asadaya Style

9-1

Asadaya has earned a Michelin one-star rating two consecutive times for its cuisine. Centered on local ingredients, the inn serves the most delicious seasonal offerings without being constrained by tradition, with attention to tableware ranging from Kaga maki-e lacquerware over 100 years old to works by contemporary artisans, aiming to delight the eyes as well. For example, the winter specialty “Truffle Chawanmushi” (steamed egg custard) is an authorized menu item taught by the chef of “Bouley,” a French restaurant in New York, incorporating ingredients such as truffle, caviar, and foie gras.

 4. Ideal Location for Kanazawa Sightseeing

6-1

With excellent access to major tourist attractions such as Omi-cho Market and Kenroku-en Garden, guests can fully enjoy the atmosphere of Kanazawa. The inn’s interior is also enveloped in tranquility, allowing guests to forget the bustle of the city and spend a leisurely time.
